L-carnitine is a natural amino acid derivative that is used for weight loss as well as brain function (2). It is found in your body as well as most foods and supplements (2). L- Carnitine’s main role in your body involves mitochondrial function and energy production (2). In cells , it is the source that takes the fatty acids and puts it in the mitochondria where it is burned for energy (2). This means it encourages fat burn during workouts, as well preventing muscle failure and fatigue (1). The process in the mitochondria can also play a role in fighting against disease and encouraging healthy aging, so it has health benefits beyond weight loss (1).
